Abdominal Acupuncture, a micro miracle!

Abdominal Acupuncture, a Micro Miracle!

Introduction

Abdominal acupuncture is an incredibly powerful new form of acupuncture which has been in use in China since 1991. It was developed by Prof Bo Zhi Yin and has been evolving since he first started to develop this system in 1972. Abdominal acupuncture uses the area between Zhongwan Ren 12 and Guanyuan Ren 4 on the vertical line and Daheng Sp 15 as the outer most points on the horizontal lines. All body parts and organs can be treated by needling within this area. A blueprint of the Turtle is used to map anatomical areas of the body while the ancient baqua is used to explain the relationship with the corresponding organs and viscera. Although abdominal acupuncture is seen as another micro form of acupuncture there are many differences between it and other forms which make it more than simply another micro form such as auricular acupuncture. Since Abdominal acupuncture uses its own Abdominal Meridian System (AMS) this helps to explain how the results can be so astonishing and often almost miraculous!

In my previous article “An Introduction to Abdominal acupuncture”, the AFPA newsletter August 2010, I explained the theory of abdominal acupuncture in this article I would like to focus more on my own clinical experiences since I first trained with Dr Han in Nanjing in 2000. I would like to share some of the more memorable cases I have treated and give some suggestions as to why I would agree with the reference to abdominal acupuncture as being a “Miracle therapy”.

I use abdominal acupuncture in 90% of my treatments and over the years I have had amazing results especially with treating pain of both a chronic and acute nature. I regularly give demonstrations through my Centreforce abdominal acupuncture school and for organisations such as the (BRI) Brain Recovery Ireland and for the Clinical club in Lansdowne College and for business groups such as the BNI. Abdominal acupuncture has never let me down and always astonishes observers  as  the volunteers pain level decreases from a maximum reference score of 10 to at least a score of 2 and usually to zero, i.e. no pain within minutes of starting the treatment.

A total Headcase

One of the most impressive results was for John who had suffered a severe brain injury as a result of a shelf with over 50Kgs weight on it hitting him on the temple in a freak accident. His injuries left him in excruitiating pain 24/7 from
1.    The left temple to the the right temple.
2.    Fengchi GB20 on the right to Taiyang (extra) on the left.
John had used every pain killing medicine, medical and otherwise possible and the next option was to “numb part of his brain” but this was only being offered in the USA and he could not risk the flight as the change in air pressure could have killed him. I decided to use John as a volunteer and explained to the audience that really this was a challenging case.

I proceeded and needled Ren 12 (Zhongwan),10, 6 (Qihai) and 4 (Guanyuan) (bringing the qi home) I then needled ahshi points above Ren 12 which I palpated and found small knots at, as I needled these points quite superficially (0.1-0.4cun) I checked with John how his pain was and it had reduced in area 1 down to a very comfortable score of two (from Ten). I again palpated between Ren 11 (Jianli) & Ren 12 (Zhongwan) to find more ahshi points relating to the pain from GB20 (Fengchi)– Taiyang once again following superficial needling (0.1-0.4cun) I was delighted to hear from John that the pain there had completely disappeared.

Piles of pain

Jill attended me a number of years ago initially with low back pain and on her second visit she complained of severe pain due to haemorrhoids which were making movement very uncomfortable for her. I asked her to put a score of 10 on her pain and discomfort and proceeded to treat her with abdominal acupuncture. I started the session with Bahui Du 20 for convenience as it is easier to needle sitting up. I then used the prescription of “bringing qi home”  Ren 12 (Zhongwan), Ren 10 (Xiawan), Ren 6 (Qihai)  & Ren 4 (Guanyuan) to move the qi to the kidney and supplement Spleen qi, I also used  Sp 15 (Daheng) to supplement Sp qi  and added needles at kid 17 (Shangqu) to enhance the effect of the needles at Ren 10 (Xiawan) on invigorating the Spleen. I used special abdominal point’s qipang (Ab 7) along the kidney meridian either side of Ren 6 to enhance the tonification of the spleen, Yang and Qi. I also used kidney 13 (Qixue) either side of Ren 4 (Guanyuan) to improve the effect of Ren 4 (Guanyuan) in strengthening the kidneys and also because of the anatomical location of Ren 4 (Guanyuan) being level with the L-5 vertebrae. I then used an ahshi point just below Ren 4 (Guanyuan) and the pain and discomfort eased almost immediately. Following the treatment Jill felt a lot more comfortable and movement was easier. Jill reported on the next visit that the haemorrhoids were completely gone  the following day.

The tip of the Iceberg

I have numerous cases where chronic arthritic, sciatic or Rheumatic pain has completely gone following a course of Abdominal Acupuncture. I have used it to treat all manner of painful conditions and I am always impressed by the rapid, powerful and sustained good results with abdominal acupuncture. I have had clients with slipped discs, observe by MRI scans, that the discs have corrected themselves following a course of treatment. I have witnessed clients go from being incapable of movement due to  severe acute sciatica receive treatment in the morning and do an extremely physical one hour dance performance that night. I have countless more examples of cases that have given exceptional results.

Conclusion

This fantastic form of acupuncture got the name Miracle therapy partly due to the fact that the Turtle upon which it is based (to represent the body anatomically) is often referred to as the Miraculous Turtle in ancient Chinese philosophy. More importantly I believe it deserves the name of “miracle therapy” due to its Abdominal Meridian system and the proximity of all the zang fu organs which make this area “the field of elixir” or the “Dantian” so, energetically potent at all levels.
I feel privileged to have learned this beautiful art with the highly revered Dr. Han Yan and am delighted to be able to share this skill with other acupuncturist’s through the Centreforce workshops.
I will be running the next Centreforce abdominal acupuncture course, a 2 day workshop “Mastering the art of Abdominal Acupuncture in early 2016. This course has been approved by the AFPA for 4 CPD points and by the ACI for 14 CPD points.
